PreviewsThe unbeaten HONEYSUCKLE returns to defend her crown from 12 months ago where she delivered a scintillating performance at the expense of 2020 heroine Epatante, who finished third. Henry de Bromhead's mare won with a lot more authority on her first start of the season in the Hatton's Grace at Fairyhouse than she did in 2020, before following the same pattern by landing her third Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown. Although she is likely to prove a tough nut to crack, this is a stronger race than last year and Appreciate It, who makes his first appearance since a wide-margin victory in last year's Supreme, commands the utmost respect. A setback earlier in the season meant plans to go chasing were shelved and he is in the right hands to attempt winning this off such a long absence, despite it being an obvious concern. Teahupoo and Zanahiyr represent last season's juvenile form and the pair are both open to further improvement. The former was a hugely impressive winner of the Red Mills at Gowran last month and boasts a similar profile to Espoir D'allen, who landed this in 2019, while the latter did well to recover from a bad mistake at the first flight to finish second behind Honeysuckle at Leopardstown. The application of cheekpieces for the first time could sharpen him up in the early stages and the son of Nathaniel may reward each-way supporters. Epatante comes here fresh after her Christmas Hurdle victory at Kempton, but she will have her work cut out against the Irish challenge.
